Curry Bowl It is a restaurant of Sri Lankan food, and a real gem if you like spicy food. Located in the popular Tkalčićeva, one of Zagreb's liveliest streets. The restaurant is small, modern, and colorful, with an open kitchen and a lively terrace right on the pedestrian street.

We asked for the kotthu with chicken, which is their signature dish: pieces of flatbread sautéed with vegetables, spices, and egg. It was spectacular, with a spicy touch that didn't cover up the flavor. We also ordered the chicken curry And we loved it: juicy, well-spiced, and with a powerful sauce that called for rice by the spoonful. Total comfort food.

The place isn't expensive at all, and for what they offer, we left more than satisfied. The service was also fast and very friendly; they helped us choose according to our preferences.

Restaurant Agava

Restaurant Agava It's one of those places that people recommend when you ask where to eat well in Zagreb Mediterranean with Croatian touches, on a terrace overlooking the liveliest street in the center. Several people recommended it to us, so we went to try it.

We asked for the beef tartare as a starter, which was very well seasoned and served with crusty bread. For the main course, we shared a risotto with cheese from the island of Pag and pear, which was our favorite: creamy, just the right amount of sweet and savory, and very original. We were left wanting to try more, but the menu is quite extensive, so if we go back, we'll definitely come back.

The atmosphere is calm, perfect for a leisurely dinner or lunch. Prices are around 20–25 € per person, a little more expensive than average in Zagreb, but understandable given the location and quality.

The Štruk

The Štruk It is a place specialized in a single dish: štrukli, a kind of typical Croatian lasagna filled with fresh cheese. The place is very cute, with rustic decoration and wooden tables, perfect for a quick meal or a stop between visits to the center.

We ask for the classic baked štrukli, the most typical. The texture is unusual, like baked pasta with melted cheese inside. It's good, although we weren't crazy about it either. It's one of those dishes you have to try if you're in Zagreb, but one serving is enough.

The place is small and tends to fill up quickly, so it's best to arrive early or be patient if you're going during rush hour. However, the service is friendly and everything arrives fairly quickly.

  • Favorite dish: classic baked štrukli

Nokturno

Nokturno It's one of those places that's always packed, and with good reason. It's right next to the cathedral, in a steep street with terraces that give it a lot of charm Croatian and Italian cuisine, unpretentious, but with dishes that make you want to come back.

We share a creamy lasagna which we loved—generous and tasty, perfect for a starter. Then we ordered tagliatelle with scampi, with good pasta and a well-balanced sauce, without being too heavy. We didn't need more, but the menu is extensive and has options for all tastes: pizzas, risottos, meats...

The atmosphere is lively, with tables inside and outside, and fast service, even though it was quite crowded. It's an ideal place if you want a good meal without spending a lot and without complications. We recommend arriving early to find a spot.

  • Favorite dish: lasagna, without a doubt

Lanterna na Dolcu

Lanterna na Dolcu It’s located in a 300-year-old brick-vaulted basement, right next to the Dolac market in the centre of Zagreb — it has an intimate atmosphere and a welcoming feel, just like you’re staying with a friend.

We shared a starter of cheese strudel wrapped in prosciutto —tasty and a great texture— and as a main course we chose the sea bass loin with truffle sauce and homemade croquettes, which was spectacular: tasty, well presented and with balanced flavors. For dessert, we couldn't resist the Lanterna štrukli with cranberry sauce, a typical dish from here won an award, a creamy total delight.

The atmosphere is very pleasant: rustic basement, a small terrace with views of the cathedral, and very friendly service. We felt like we were in a small local gem. The price is good for the quality: it will be around 25–35 € per head, including starter, main course and dessert.

Pod Zidom Bistro

Pod Zidom Bistro It's right on the famous street Pod Zidom, between the main square and the cathedral, with a terrace offering direct views of the south tower. It's a modern bistro with a distinctive Michelin, market food and top-quality local wines, so it's the most expensive on the list. We recommend it if you want to celebrate a special occasion or are a foodies hardened.

We ordered a homemade gnocchi dish with creamy cheese and a touch of pumpkin oil, and the main course is braised lamb with local green leaves. All fresh, seasonal, and prepared with care.

The atmosphere is a blend of a warm dining room with minimalist decor and a charming terrace next to the cathedral. The service was attentive, recommending natural wines to perfectly accompany the dishes.
