Ibiza, famous worldwide for its parties and dreamy beaches, has much more to offer, as the island has an incredible mix of culture, history and natural landscapes that deserve to be explored in depth. From the lively atmosphere of San Antonio to the historic corners of Dalt Vila every day will take you on a new adventure. The beaches are not far behind, with gems such as Bassa Cove o Comte Cove The beach is the perfect place to enjoy the sun and the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, the hippie culture is still alive in the street markets of Las Dalias y Arabí Point where art and tradition intermingle. Not forgetting a visit to Formentera a place that looks like something out of the Caribbean.

Where to stay in Ibiza

We decided to travel by ferry to Ibiza and there we stayed at San Antonio since it is one of the areas of the island where the lodgings have the best quality-price ratio. After a lot of looking around we decided to choose the Osiris Hotel and it was a success, we enjoyed the breakfasts and the views of the beach of San Antonio so we would repeat without hesitation.

If you have decided that you want to travel to Ibiza but you still don't know which is the best option for you best place to stay on the island according to your travel plans, at this post we tell you which are the ideal areas to be close to the best beaches, spend a few days of disconnection, travel with your family, your partner or enjoy the nightlife of Ibiza.

Day 1: San Antonio and Las Dalias flea market

San Antonio

We spent the day of our arrival resting from the ferry ride and getting to know the surroundings of the place where we were staying. The San Antonio beach is the most basic of the island, it has clear waters but little sand and the main attraction of the area are the cocktail bars and nightclubs guiris. Even so, from our point of view it has one of the most beautiful and less crowded sunsets of the whole island.

For the rest of the days, it is highly recommended to have a vehicle Although some coves are connected by public transport, to visit the wildest beaches of Ibiza you will need to rent a car. From our point of view it is something essential to make the most of your stay on the island and that you can squeeze this guide.

Las Dalias Hippie Market

Something you can't miss in Ibiza is the Hippie markets. It is a concept similar to what we usually know as flea market but it is impregnated with the culture and personality of the inhabitants of the island. In these markets you can find exclusive decoration and handmade clothes so we recommend that if you see something you like you take it with you because you will probably not find it again anywhere else in Ibiza.

In addition to the product stands, there are also food stalls where you can rest from the visit while you have a cocktail, a beer or a pitcher of sangria. There are also events with live music and DJs so it is a very good option if you are looking for a daytime atmosphere.

However, even in summer, they are not open every day, so before you go, we recommend you to check the schedules:

• Hippy Market If you are looking for ambiance I recommend you to visit it on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m..
• Night Market If, on the other hand, you feel like trying the quieter version of the flea market, you can go to Sundays, Mondays or Tuesdays from 7 pm to 00 am.

Day 2: Dalt Vila and Playa d'en bossa

Dalt Vila and Ibiza

The second day we were on the island it was a bit cloudy so we took the opportunity to go to the area of Dalt Vila in the capital of the island. This is a very good idea if you do not want to roast in the heat visiting the historic center of the city in the middle of the day. In addition, we reserve the days with more sun to see the most beautiful and blue coves of the island.

If you don't have any cloudy days during your trip I recommend you to visit Dalt Vila at sunset and have dinner in one of the many restaurants in the surroundings (although below we leave you some recommendations).

To get to the place, you should know that the entrance to motor vehicles is prohibited, so it is best to try to leave the car in the surroundings by the Santa Eulalia Des Riu Avenue or the Bartomeu de Roselló Ave.. If you have no luck with parking, you will probably have to use the parking lot.

Once parked, you can enter through the Ptge. de Simó Pouet and make a circular route. We took the opportunity to make a free tourand we leave here the most interesting things we saw:

• Santa Lucia Bastion with panoramic views of Ibiza and its port.
• Viewpoint of the wall  of Dalt Vila with views of the old town from below.
• Viewpoint of the sea.
• Subway tunnel access to the cathedral. It is located right on the wall in front of the town hall door.
• Lookout bastions. Along the outer promenade of the wall there are several bastions that are quite windy but have spectacular views of the sea.
• Flower Street. It is a pedestrian street where there are several houses that are completely covered by bougainvilleas. It is one of the typical photos of the walks through Dalt Vila. In addition in this street there is a house in which several artists and recognized characters have left a memory shaping their hands on cement. There is a commemorative square next to the silhouette of the hands of each one.

If during the walk you feel like having a drink, we recommend you to do it at S'Escalinata. It is a bar with terrace in the center of Dalt Vila quite a lot instagrammable. For lunch or dinner we recommend you to try your luck at the Bar San Juan (closed on Sundays), one of the few places that still maintains the prices of the place and an unbeatable quality of food. Of course, you have to go soon or you won't even get a seat. If you have run out of seats and you feel like having lunch or dinner on a terrace, the Vara de Rey promenade is a good option with a lot of restaurants with different types of cuisine and prices.

Playa d'en Bossa and beach clubs

After lunch in Dalt Vila our day was quite clear and we took the opportunity to visit one of the most atmospheric beaches of Ibiza. You shouldn't have any problem to park because there is plenty of parking space on the Ctra. de Platja d'en Bossa. This area is where some of the most important beach clubs y nightclubs most famous of the island. Surely you have heard of Ushuaia or the Hard Rock Hotel which, as their name suggests, are beachfront hotels that have a huge discotheque open to the public in the pool area.

Here, depending on your budget, you can take the opportunity to have a drink at one of the beach clubs on the beach:

• The Beach By Ushuaia
• Nassau
• Beachouse
• Tanit

None is cheap we advance it to you. If you are willing to pay the price you can enjoy a bed on the beach with a cold drink and personalized attention. If you feel like visiting one of them, most of them have a website and accept online reservations.

Another interesting option for the party animals is to join a party on a boat with open bar included. Depending on the date, this activity also includes access to one of the following nightclubs we have told you about before.

Other Bossa Beach is a place of white sand and clear water like most of the beaches of Ibiza but quite bigger than the rest with plenty of space on the sand to accommodate crowds of people. There are quite a few hawkers and both lifeguards and locals often warn you to watch your belongings. It is very close to the airport so it is not difficult to see so many people passing by commercial aircraft as private jets that come to spend a few days in paradise.

Day 3: Cala Salada, Saladeta and lookout point

Cala Salada and Saladeta

On the third day of our trip the sun was spectacular so we decided to visit one of the best rated beaches in Ibiza, Saladeta Cove. To visit either of these two coves is very easy early bird recommended since the parking of Cala Salada is the only access and has few places so it fills up quickly. If you go by motorcycle you can get to the end of the road that leads to Cala Salada but even so it doesn't take too long to fill up. You should try to get there between 10 am and 10:30 am morning.

In addition, because of the coronavirus, we sometimes have restrict motorized access to Cala Saladeta to avoid overcrowding and encourage people to take the bus to the beach. So if you don't want to take the risk try arrive before 10:00 a.m. when there are no agents regulating traffic.

To access Cala Saladeta you will have to follow the wooden walkway that leads to Cala Salada and take a path among stones that appears on the right at the end of the platform. So after a walk of less than 10 minutes you will reach Cala Saladeta, along the way, if the beach is still half empty there are some very cool views of the water.

Once settled, you will see that during the day the beach is full of the typical vendors who pass by to offer you mojitos, beers, soft drinks or even some sandwiches or empanadas.

Ses Fontanelles Caves

If you are fans of active tourism and you feel like doing a small route, there is a dirt road (Camí Cala Salada) that leaves the beach by some stairs and leads to the Covas Des Vi. The caves themselves are also nothing special but from there you have spectacular views of the area and it is an ideal place to see the sunset surrounded by nature.

Viewpoint at the gates of heaven

If you prefer to move around a little bit, we'll go to the viewpoint of the Puertas del Cielo Restaurant. Here you can park your car on the side of the road, near the restaurant and take the opportunity to see a panoramic view of the northwest side of the island. When we went there the restaurant was closed so we could not try it but it is true that dining in that place must be a very good experience.

As if you follow this guide you will not stop moving all over the island, we recommend that you hire an travel insurance. Even more so if you are thinking of renting a motorcycle. There should be no problem but it is worth covering your back for a few euros, you know that on vacation more than ever, time is money!

Day 4: Formentera

On the fourth day of our trip we had planned our visit to Formentera we we hired the ferry to the island in the link that we leave you. The boats leave from the capital, of course. We also rented in advance a motorcycle to move around the island, most of the companies are in the same port of Formentera but if you check-in online in advance you will save some queues when you arrive.

We take the opportunity to RENT A MOTORCYCLE with ecooltra as it was one of the companies that had better ratings and also allowed to rent the bike with carrier and lock. Something quite useful for not having to carry the helmet that does not fit under the seat all over the island.

One of the best recommendations we can give you for the day you visit Formentera is to get up as early as you can to enjoy the island to the fullest.

If you want to go more safely without having to hire a motorcycle or car to move around the island, there are also organized boat excursions with lunch included and visit to some of the most famous coves of Formentera.

Ses Illetes

If you arrive early as we have said the first stop is the natural park of Ses Illetes, passing through the area of salt marshes, before it starts to fill with people. To enter 3/moto to be paid in cash at the toll booths on the road. Once inside, the best thing to do is to try to park on the last parking The restaurant Es Ministre, where we do not recommend you to eat because in this area everything is very expensive, even the bottles of water, so do not forget to take with you provisions.

Once parked you can access the beach by one of the wooden walkways and enjoy the beautiful views of white sand and blue waters. You can even walk along the sand to the left until you reach a small island where you can cross on foot if the tide allows it.

Es Pujols

Well, in the end we spent the morning in Ses Illetes and then we went to have lunch in Es Pujols. Here we had booked in a quite typical place where they serve you good food and drinks without abusing our pockets. If you want to be on the safe side we recommend you to eat a paella at Casa Carmen For 40€ they have a menu for two that includes paella and a liter of decent sangria.

After lunch we went for a walk along the promenade of the village and approached Migjorn beach.

Migjorn Beach

Google Maps does not make it very clear where this beach is because it is much longer than it is represented. We went to a less crowded area that a local girl recommended us through one of the dead end streets near the beach Insotel Formentera Playa. In fact, we met some celebrities from the world of soccer and some paparazzi.

Saona Cove

After the siesta we decided to end the day in Cala Saona. This place is famous for having one of the sunsets of Formentera. If you go around that time you will see that it is full of boats that park to watch the sunset from there.

Otherwise it is a flat cove with a lot of charm because of the old fishermen's houses that surround it. If you want to have a drink you have a couple of beach bars They are open all day long until sunset.

Due to the fact that there are usually many boats anchored in this cove and that it is quite busy with fishermen, it was not one of our favorite coves for snorkeling. Even so it is in our top 5 beaches of Formentera.

Day 5: Cala Bassa, Santa Eulalia and hippie market

Bassa Cove

On the fifth day we decided to visit Bassa cove. This time we were a bit unlucky because the day was a bit cloudy and the water was not as clear as usual. Arriving at the cove area you find two parking lots If you go by motorcycle you can park for free on the left hand side, but if you go by car you will have to pay 5€ to leave the car all day. The good thing is that this 5€ includes a drink at the Beach Club.... that's something.

It is a very nice beach but to put some downside has a couple of stones in the middle that makes access to the water is not as comfortable as in other coves.

Santa Eulalia

Santa Eulalia is a charming town and also a good accommodation option for couples or families. In our visit we took the opportunity to stroll through the center, visit the promenade, the Parish of Santa Eulalia at the top and one of the trendiest places on the island the W Ibiza hotel where events and parties of all kinds are held, some even free.

For parking in high season, it is highly recommended to use the parking marked in orange on the map or some of the streets inside the orange box where there is usually more room. Eating areas are marked in green on the map, there are plenty of options available for all tastes and pockets.

Hippie Market of Punta Arabí

We also went to see the Punta Arabí hippy market (open Wednesdays from 10am to 1am9h) inside the AzuLine hotel Cala Martina Club Ibiza. It certainly wasn't our lucky day because it was closed.

Day 6: Xarraca Cove and San Vicente Cove

On the sixth day we decided to approach the north of the island The places in the north are less known but at the same time have more charm because you find a wilder landscape, cliffs, curvy roads and another type of tourism. The next time I return to Ibiza I will certainly spend more time in this area.

Xarraca Cove

When we arrived at this cove we were a bit disappointed because the sea was choppy and there were quite strong waves that had brought too much seaweed to the sand. With calm seas it should be a very good cove for diving and snorkeling snorkel There is a small islet in the middle that has a lot of plants and marine species around it. According to what we have been told it is a pleasure to dive around it.

In addition, if you feel like a little more privacy you can walk along the cliffside to the left of the beach and pass a small hidden cove of stones where there is usually almost no one. If you want to enjoy the views, on the right hand side there is a stone path, which runs around a luxury hotel, which takes you to a small viewpoint from which you can see the gulf of Xarraca.

Parking is easy although as it happens in most of the coves of Ibiza it fills up quite early if you don't get up early. There is also a restaurant on the beach in case you feel like eating there. 

San Vicente Cove

Despite having several large hotels nearby it is a fairly unknown cove for what it has to offer. It was one of our favorite coves in Ibiza The beach has white sand, very transparent waters and the largest amount of fish and marine fauna that we saw on the island.

If you like to make snorkel I recommend swimming in and snorkeling near the rocky areas and plants that appear as the sea gets deeper. If you prefer to take a walk along the sand there are fishermen's cottages on the sides that can be visited, even if you like beach volleyball there are usually a couple of nets at the back of the beach.

Regarding services the beach:

• For parking there are a couple of fairly large spaces provided on the sides of the beach but they tend to fill up quickly due to the hotels in the vicinity.
• To eat there are several restaurants and supermarkets practically on the beach.

Punta Grossa Lighthouse Route

If you feel like doing some active tourism, from Cala de San Vicente itself you can take the route to Punta Grossa Lighthouse. It is 5Km round trip, of medium difficulty especially if you decide to do it with the sun at the top but it is worth it for the views of the entire route that runs along the edge of the cliff.

Day 7: Cala Comte, Time & Space and Es Vedrá

Comte Cove

For the seventh day we reserved one of the most beautiful coves of Ibiza Comte Cove has at least two parts separated by a small stone tongue that goes into the sea and one of the bluest waters I have seen on the island.

For me it was one of the most beautiful coves we visited, although it is true that to enjoy it in conditions it is necessary to get up quite early because it fills up very early. If you do not mind walking for a while there is not too much parking problem because you can leave the car in one of the holes provided on the roads leading from the road to the beach. If you go by motorcycle there is a barrier that you can cross and you will be allowed to park practically on the sand near the restaurant although we warn you that you will have to prepare your wallet if you feel like eating there.

The views of the Illa des Bosc From the sand are spectacular, it is highly recommended to wear goggles and snorkel because if you approach the stones that are to the right of the cove you can see plenty of fish and plants.

Time and Space Monument and the Gates of Heaven. Llentia Cove.

Another must-see in this area are the monuments of the Time and Space y Gates of Heaven. The first one was ordered to be built by Guy Laliberté to Andrew Rogers for his mansion in Can Soleil. In case you do not know the story a few years ago there was some controversy over the construction of this monument in a natural area apparently without a license, in fact it came to light a file opened by the municipality of San Jose to those involved in addition to a hefty fine.

In spite of this, the truth is that the works are located in a spectacular enclave. The access is free of charge and is not controlled, it is an area of cliffs overlooking Cala Llentia from which you can appreciate a beautiful sunset. There is a large influx of tourists and yogis who come to meditate and learn about the energy of the area.

If you go to see it you can park on one of the roads at the entrance to the Time and Space monument but be careful where the GPS guides you because there are some treacherous dirt roads with many potholes that gave us a scare. From the monument you can easily walk to the Gates of Heaven. Just take the path to the right of the stone circle (if you are facing the sea).

Es Vedrá viewpoint. Tower des Savinar

There are a multitude of viewpoints to enjoy enchanting sunsets in Ibiza. The viewpoint of road to the tower des Savinar is perhaps the best of them with the trade-off that it is also quite well known.

To get there you must walk as cars are not allowed on the road leading to the viewpoint. People usually park at the entrance if you go by motorcycle, on the side of the road or in a parking lot that has been enabled a little above the entrance. The path to the viewpoint is quite simple, just follow the dirt road until you reach an area of stones that cut one side of the road. If we cross the stones we will arrive at the spectacular viewpoint at the edge of the cliff where we will be able to contemplate the following views Es Vedra with the sun in the background in all its splendor.

Another option that has to be very cool is to see Es Vedra from a boat, taking advantage of some of the excursions that include this area and some of the most beautiful coves. There are options that make the visit to the sunset which has to be magical.

If you feel up to it, there is a route (signposted) towards the Torre des Savinar. The views from the tower are better because you will have more height and more perspective, that if, it is advisable to leave with time because if you want to get to the top are at least 3Km of road.
