Located on the edge of the Cantabrian Sea, it is the perfect place to make a trip that combines nature, beaches y historical center with charm. Without forgetting the famous Asturian gastronomy, because Llanes has a lot of restaurants and cider houses where taste the best cachopos, fabadas or cider..

It is a town that has a very lively atmosphere in summer as it receives visitors from all over Spain. For us this is a plus, as we like to be in lively places, although it must be taken into account both for booking hotels and restaurants, as everything is usually filled to capacity.

1. Historical center

As we always recommend, one of the essential things to do in Llanes is to wander aimlessly through its historic center. You will discover its medieval wall and its tower that, together with the Basilica of Santa María del Concejo The museum is a spectacular historical site. We also recommend you to visit the Casino of Llanes, a building of modernist style very curious to see.

You can also tour the Main Street and bars, all the way down to the Santa Ana Square where the Chapel of Santa Ana. And from there go through the Palace of the Dukes of Estrada built in the 11th century and now in ruins.

If you want to make a stop for a drink we recommend the Parres Sobrino and Constitution Square (which are right next door). Both are full of restaurants and bars and have a very good atmosphere.

2. The best beaches in Llanes

Whether you like the beach or not, the landscapes of some of these beaches are spectacular and worth a visit. The council of Llanes has more than 30 beaches But we are going to recommend you our favorites near the town itself:

  • El Sablón Beach Beach located within the town of Llanes, golden sand and with all services available. It is usually quite crowded because if you stay in Llanes you can walk perfectly. The Paseo de San Pedro, which we will tell you below, reaches this beach.

3. San Pedro Promenade

This 19th century natural grass promenade is situated on cliffs that offer a spectacular view of the sea panoramic spectacular both of the town of Llanes and the Asturian coast. 5. Memory cubes

This famous work by the Basque painter Agustín Ibarrola, which can be found in one of the most important breakwaters that protect the port of Llanes, is one of the most original things you can see in Llanes.

The work consists of paintings on the various concrete blocks that form the breakwater with different shapes (eyes, fish, etc.) and cheerful colors. It is a beautiful place where watch the sunset and how the waves break against the famous blocks.

6. Houses of Indianos

Llanes is full of these large mansions styling colonial The houses were built by the llaniscos immigrants who amassed some wealth on their journey to the Americas. On their return they built these large houses as vacation homes to show off their success.

8. Hermitage of the Virgen de la Guía

Hermitage of the XVI century with the shape of a castle that has been reformed several times throughout the years. It is located in the top of the Guide's hill (hence its name), and therefore has views about the people of Llanes and on the coast This makes it a special place to admire these landscapes.
