Corralejo vs Costa Calma

How to get to Corralejo or Costa Calma?

Getting to Corralejo or Costa Calma is relatively easy. Fuerteventura has ferry connections and an airport airport well connected. We found direct flights from several cities in Spain, which made our arrival much easier.

Once on the island, you can opt for rent a car which we recommend to explore the island at your own pace. Corralejo is easily reached from the airport in less than an hour's drive, while Costa Calma is just over an hour's drive away.

If you prefer public transportation, there are public transport services to buses (buses) that will take you to both destinations. In our experience, the trip was comfortable and allowed us to enjoy the scenery of the island along the way.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

The climate in Corralejo is quite pleasant all year round. Temperatures here rarely drop below 18 degrees in winter and in summer they are usually around 28 degrees. However, there is some wind almost all year round, which can be ideal if you like the surf or the kitesurf.

The best time to visit Corralejo depends on what you are looking for. If you want to avoid the agglomerations the months of April, May, June, September and October are perfect. In these months, the weather is still warm but without the hustle and bustle of the more touristy months such as July and August.

Costa Calma also enjoys a great climate. Temperatures here are similar to Corralejo although this area is a bit more temperate less windy which makes it ideal if you prefer beaches more Quiet.

The best time to visit Costa Calma is very similar to Corralejo. The months of spring y autumn are the most recommended if you want to enjoy the good weather without so many people. In addition, these months usually have more affordable accommodation prices.

Both Corralejo and Costa Calma have their own charm and offer a variety of activities and places not to be missed. From stunning beaches and sand dunes in Corralejo to the calm waters and natural landscapes of Costa Calma there is something for everyone. What to see and do in Corralejo

1. Dunes Natural Park It is a desert landscape with dunes that look like something out of a movie. You can go for a walk in the area, go to the nearby beaches and feel like you are in another world.
2. The Lobos Island is one of the excursions that we liked the most to do near Corralejo. A small paradise for lovers of snorkel and tranquility. Visits are limited, so we suggest you book in advance.
3. Hiking trails Even volcanoes such as the Calderon Hondo or incredible viewpoints such as the ravine of las peñitas.
4. The restaurants and the nightlife Corralejo is something you have to experience. There is a wide range of bars and restaurants that offer from live music to terraces where you can have a cocktail by the sea.
5. Water activities You can take a surfing or kitesurfing course or even participate in quad excursions in the dunes. During our visit, we went windsurfing and it was an incredible experience.

2. Oasis Park A botanical garden and zoo that is one of the most recommended plans for young and old. It is a perfect opportunity to learn about the local flora and fauna.
3. Jandía Natural Park South of Costa Calma, it offers amazing landscapes and beaches such as Cofete It is an impressive place for its beauty and isolation. It is a must visit for any nature lover.
4. Water activities and routes Costa Calma is a mecca for windsurfing and kitesurfing, thanks to the Sotavento beach with its ideal wind conditions. It also offers hiking excursions through spectacular desert landscapes. We loved the tranquility of the walks.

Fuerteventura Gastronomy

The gastronomy in both destinations has the sea as a protagonist. In Corralejo, we enjoy the freshest seafood and the fish of the day in restaurants overlooking the sea. The "old"is a local fish that you have to try. If you decide to Corralejo don't miss our article with the best restaurants.

At Costa Calma, we are fond of dishes such as the fish barbecue and the wrinkled potatoes with mojo. Do not leave without trying the majorera goat cheese, with the island's designation of origin, which is simply exquisite.

How much is the trip to Corralejo or Costa Calma worth?

The cost of a trip to Corralejo or Costa Calma is similar, although Costa Calma tends to be more expensive a little more economical in lodging. The flights to Fuerteventura from the mainland usually cost between 50 and 150 euros round trip. In Corralejo, the lodgings range from 30 euros per night in hostels to over 150 euros in luxury hotels. In Costa Calma, prices are slightly lower, with mid-range hotels ranging from 50 to 90 euros per night.

Eat in both places is affordable, with daily menus between 10 and 15 euros and dinners for two around 50 euros. The car rental starts at about 20 euros per day. The activities such as surf lessons or boat excursions are around 40-50 euros.

It depends on your personal taste, we loved Corralejo for its dunes and the amount of nearby excursions and routes that could be done. However in Costa Calma we enjoyed huge beaches with breathtaking views that we had not known anywhere else.

Corralejo you will love it if you are looking for a more active tourism while Costa Calma is the ideal place for those who want to disconnect and enjoy the beach unhurried.

What is the best area of Fuerteventura to go with children?

Costa Calma is excellent for families because of its environment quiet and soft beaches. In addition, the proximity to the Oasis Park is a great plus for the little ones.

Corralejo is also a good option, since it offers safe beaches and many activities outdoor activities that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.

What beaches are not to be missed in Fuerteventura?

In addition to the beaches of Corralejo and Costa Calma, don't miss the Cofete Beach for its wild beauty, and the Esmeralda Beach for its crystalline and calm waters.
