The Corpus Christi Fair of Granada is usually held in late May or early June, with Corpus Christi Thursday as the central day. The fairgrounds are located in the district of Almanjáyar north of the city, although most of the cultural and traditional activities take place in the historical center of the city.

Corpus Christi Processions: The Tarasca and the Corpus Christi Processions
La Tarasca
La Tarasca leaves on Wednesday before Corpus Christi Day from the Town Hall Square, around 12:00 noon. It is not a religious procession, but a parade type parade with a more festive tone. The protagonist is a mythological figure which represents a beast tamed by Santa Marta, but which in Granada is represented as a mannequin dressed with the outfit of the year and who rides on a dragon.
The best thing is to see how the people of Granada comment on the "look" of the Tarasca in the street as if it were the red carpet. She is accompanied by giants, big heads y charangas that hit the spectators with the classic bladders. So if you go with children (and not so children), make a note of this appointment.
The tour passes through the main streets of the center: Plaza del Carmen, Reyes Católicos, Gran Vía... so we recommend you to look for a place a while before if you want to see it well. Below we leave you a map with the route that Tarasca usually does:
Corpus Christi Procession
The religious procession takes place on Corpus Christi Thursday In the morning, it is the most solemn act of the whole week. It departs from the Cathedral and follows a traditional route through the city center. It is accompanied by brotherhoods, banners, authorities, music bands typical of the processions.
The most special thing is the route: the streets are filled with altars, shawls, awnings, poplar branches, etc. y petals that fall from the balconies. The neighbors are quite involved in decorating their streets (there are some balcony contests), especially in the Albaycin y around the Cathedral.
That's right: if you go, go with time especially if you want to see something up close. And if it is hot (which it most likely will be), bring a hat, water and some shade. Granada is unforgiving in June.
Carocas and quintillas in Bib-Rambla square
One of the things we like most about the Corpus Christi days in Granada is going to the Bib-Rambla Square to see the exhibition of carocas and quintillas. The square is filled with drawings and hanging verses as if they were fair posters. We recommend you to take a quiet walk and stay a while reading them and having a good laugh.
For those of you who don't know what the carocas are, they are a graphic humor illustrations (sometimes quite sharp), and they are accompanied by a quintuplet rhymed that makes reference to some theme of the year: politics, society, well-known characters... No one is spared. It is as if the people were reviewing the year in their own way. Sometimes you have to be from Granada to catch all the references, but even if you don't know all the jokes, the atmosphere is great.
They are exposed during the whole week of Corpus Christi We recommend you to approach calmly, preferably during the week and in the morning, when there are not so many people. We always take the opportunity to have breakfast or a drink in one of the terraces of the square.
Children's activities during Corpus Christi in Granada
During the Corpus Christi Fair Granada For the little ones, there are plenty of daily proposals spread between the historic center and the fairgrounds. Here are the main children's activities:
Children's Corpus
One of the main activities for families. The Plaza Bib-Rambla becomes a kind of mini fair with carousels ecological, inflatable games, educational workshops and animation by different local companies. Ideal for a stop with the kids while touring the center.

Children's Day
It is the best day to ride in all the attractions without leaving a fortune, for children and not so children. The prices are low in all the mechanical attractions of the enclosure, and there is a lot of atmosphere from the afternoon.

No-noise day
This day is an initiative designed for children with autism or sensory sensitivities. The fairground attractions operate without music or noise strong for several hours, creating a quieter and more accessible space.

Fair booths
A key part of the Corpus Christi Fair Granada is the environment of the booths. They are not like in Seville (here most of them are public), so you can enter all no problem. Tapas, music, dancing, family or party atmosphere... there is everything, and it is worth trying several.
The Almanjáyar Fairgrounds is where they are all concentrated. In total, there are usually between 70 and 80 booths distributed in several streets. Some have their own program (concerts, performances, tapas contests...), others are quieter to eat or have a drink without being crowded.

Institutional Booth (Municipal Booth)
The Institutional Booth is the heart of the fairgrounds. Many of the most important activities of the Corpus are held here: concerts, dances, awards ceremonies performances of choirs rocieros, flamenco schools and also the institutional and group lunches.
It is the booth with the most continuous and varied programming, both day and night. If you want to experience the full atmosphere of the fair, passing through here is almost obligatory.

Tips for enjoying the booths
- Noon is a good time if you want atmosphere without too much agglomeration. Many families eat here before going to the attractions.
- At night between 22:00 and 02:00 h, is when there is the most noise: orchestras, DJ, Sevillanas groups...
- Some booths organize popular meals or paellas at very cheap prices. If you are there at that time, you can join us.

Fair concerts
One of the things that most livens up the nights of the Corpus in Granada are the concerts that are organized in the Municipal Stand of the fair. Every year there are well-known artists, cover bands, orchestras and also local musicians who know how to get the audience going. The good thing is that admission is free so you can come in, have a drink and stay as long as your body can take it.
