How to get from Kata beach to Phuket airport

By the time we arrived in Phuket, we'd been traveling in Thailand for almost 15 days and were a little fed up with taxis and tuk-tuks trying to charge us much higher than usual. Unfortunately, in Phuket, and in Thailand in general, public transportation is almost nonexistent, and buses are often very slow.

In fact, most places recommend that you take a bus from where you're staying to Phuket Town (central Phuket) and then take another bus to the airport... A real pain. Luckily, we did some more research online and found the option to.. Phuket Smart Bus:

  • Price: 100 THB per person.
  • Duration Approximately 90-120 minutes. Be careful during peak season because there's usually a lot of traffic and it takes even longer than Google Maps says.
  • Council: Bring the exact amount, they don't give change.
  • Experience The journey is relaxing, and you can enjoy the views. The buses are comfortable, with air conditioning and plenty of room for luggage.
  • Comparison with other transports:
    • Taxi: 900 THB
    • They share: 400 THB / person

If you want to get to the airport faster and you have been offered private transportation but you are not very sure if the price Whether what you've been told makes sense or not, you can check the average market price on the 12go website and see if what they're offering you is expensive or cheap. We know that the price in a shared van around the 400THB per person, while a private taxi usually comes out by 900THB (from Kata Beach to Phuket International Airport).

We also recommend checking with the hotel you're staying at, as they sometimes offer reasonably priced services. However, if you want to save money and don't mind taking a little longer, the smart bus is definitely the best option.
