If you have already visited other parts of Thailand, you will know that eating near Kata Beach is not as easy as it seems, at least not if you feel like trying authentic Thai food at a reasonable price (taking into account that we are in Thailand and everything is usually much cheaper than what we are used to).
Below we tell you which were the places we tried that we liked the most so that you can go to eat and you don't have to sit in a tourist restaurant with inflated prices. The best for this is move away from the beach for a while We asked the owner of our hotel for a recommendation and it was a success.
1. Red Chair
One of the most famous Thai restaurants in the area, it is located a little bit far from Kata Beach, at a distance of about 10 to 15 minutes walking, but let's just say that the walk is worth it. It's usually full, but as they have plenty of room you shouldn't take long to sit down. We ordered the classic rice escrambled egg, chicken with green curry and some white rice to accompany the curry. To drink a Chang our beer Thailand's favorite.
2. Chai Thai
On the way to the Red Chair If you go to this restaurant, you will pass by this other good option to eat. It is a restaurant specialized in Thai and Chinese food. We ordered two of our favorite dishes, the rice with vegetables and chicken and the rice noodles with vegetables. In total we both ate for about 300 baht counting on the beverage.
Most of the tables in this place are inside and although it is hot they have several fans that are quite appreciated.
3. Kata Road market
This market is located right next to the beach and the truth is that it is worth to go at least for a walk and why not, to have dinner if you are hungry. They have a lot of typical food to choose from among all the stalls, we tried the famous thai fried chicken and a coconut soup quite good.
The prices are relatively economic to be in Kata Beach, the chicken cost us 100 baths, the soup with rice and drink 150 baths and the big Chang another 100 baths. As it is a market, you can order almost any kind of Thai food so it is a good option to get away from the tourist restaurants.
4. Kata night market
If you are staying closer to the other end from Kata Beach you can go to this other night market. The food offer and prices are similar although this market is a bit bigger and there are a mix of stalls from food with some of clothing, memories etc. There are also several places where you can sit down to get hold of sth.. It is noted that it has much more nocturnal environment than the other market we have told you about, which is more focused on food.
5. Our secret restaurant
The owner of the hotel where we stayed in Kata Beach recommended this place, which he himself usually ordered from. The truth is that it must be a place frequented by Thai locals because it does not even appear on google maps and is little more than a stall with a tin roof over it, but the food is one of the most authentic you can find in the area.
It is located right in front of the Pomodoro Pizza Restaurant in the 32 Koktanod Rd. If you pass by, you can ask for their phone number and order to take away, since at lunchtime the place is usually quite hot.
